Another easy way to test if the alternator is putting out some Amps is
to start engine, add some RPMs, note ampere meter reading, add ten
lights (running  (2), steaming, anchor, and six cabin), then check
reading again. There should be about a 10 Amp reading on the meter,
indicating that the alternator is suppling the load.

It's not exact, don't look for "10A" just that it is putting out current.

Each lamp is about one amp.

The ampere meter will not show negative amps for house power, only load
into house power. It's not wired the same way as your car.

An alternator will always, if it's working correctly, have a higher
voltage then the battery.
