Aqua:

My only suggestion at this time would be do not "drive" the propeller
shaft while she is out of the water, as it acts as a lubricant and
coolant for the packing.

Dear List Mates: 

 

I had the guy at the boat yard tighten the packing gland on the drive
shaft.

Now when the boat is in drive, there is a whistling sound.

When I put the boat in neutral, the sound stops.

When I put it in drive it makes the whistling sound, but when I increase
the rpm's a little, the whistling stops.

 

Could this sound be a result of tightening the packing gland to tight ?

If Not, then what could be the problem ?

 

The boat is a 1977 Catalina 27.

 

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
