Hi Jim:

Sounds like you need to clean the carb float bowl and jets especially the idle
jet.

It shouldn't be too hard to disassemble. Try to find an exploded diagram
labeling all the parts on the internet. With luck you will also find
instructions on how to remove it.

I made a start on the painting. Thanks for the motivation last week and I did
put pre-coat primer on first. I've decided to use Interlux Toplac for top coat.
I just read a site that recommends crushed walnut shell for the grit in the non
skid. The reasoning being that if in future you need to sand it off then you
can. Non-skid is still a ways away so I haven't yet decided.

Regards

Mark Tamblyn

Subject: catalina27-talk: Carb cleaning

Carb-uretors, that is.

I bought a used Evinrude 9.9 outboard w/electric start. It starts hard (spray
starter fluid, fires right away) runs rough, especially at low RPMs (partial
choking helps). I'm thinking it may not have been stored properly, or for so
long that any gas in the system evaporated, and the carb may be gummed up.

So, my question is: does anyone have any experience with any product that will
clean the carb "on the engine." Some kind of gas additive perhaps? Thanks for
any advice.
