Hi, Joe--

Exactly that happened to me on a Catalina 25, only sailing. It would only
occur on a starboard tack, so it took some time to figure out. Catalina used
plastic through-hull fittings for the bilge pump and some other stuff where
it goes through the transom. At a certain age, this plastic gets very
brittle and it cracks, inside on the tube portion where the hose tends to
cover the evidence. Your outboard tends to dig the stern in a bit and put
this through-hull under water, sometimes just a little and other times a
lot, depending on the wave action, speed, etc.
