I have a Petter diesel 6 hp (overhauled). I too get about 5.5 knots in flat water and no sail @ 3000 rpm (approx). Factory 2 blade 12 X 7 prop. I had pitch changed to 9. rpm fell to 2450 and speed to 4.5 knots. Had it changed back to factory pitch 7 and it's back to 5.5 and 3000 rpm. Point is--they know what they are doing (factory) Pat Ford Seabiscuit 3692 Port Washington, WI ----- Original Message ----- From: Mark Tamblyn To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, April 23, 2007 10:39 AM Subject: RE: catalina27-talk: prop size
The prop needs to be matched to the engine. Contact Michigan Wheel and see what they recommend. http://www.miwheel.com 6.5HP is about the same as the Petter Diesel that I used to have. We got 5.5 knots on flat water. So far the fastest I can go under power is 2.5 knots. There is a 2 bladed prop on the boat from the original atomic 4. Can i change the prop to a 3 blade or different pitch will I get more speed? The engine has a 2:1 reduction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Yahoo!
