The association racing standards are:
No. 1 Genoa - 170% maximum, luff 34'6", LP 19'1.5"
No. 2 Genoa - 155% maximum, luff 34'6", LP 17'5.25"
No. 3 Genoa - 120% maximum, luff 34'6", LP 13'6"

The length of the sail's foot is often used (as Mark does below) as an
approximation of the LP or "luff perpendicular," which can be hard to
measure when the sail is on the boat. The LP is compared to the boat's J
dimension to get the %. The foot of the sail will always be a few inches
longer than the LP. The higher the clew, the bigger the difference.
So, using the standards above, the foot of a 170% will always be more than
19' 1.5" -- exactly how much more depends on the cut of the sail. (I have
an old, high-clewed 135% with an LP of 15' 2" and a foot that's 16' 2".)

Pat, 170%, 150%, 135%, ect, is a percentage of the "J" measurement. I know
it's not measured along the foot but it will be within a couple of inches.
Example: Standard rig Cat 27 "J" is 11.4' so... 11.4' x 170% = 19.38'
Sailmakers use this to determine if and where they might need to install
track.
