? All those thing except sweating go alone with heat and humidity. I live in
Arizona where it is hotter with no bugs, mold or mildew.

You know Michael, I wonder about someone who is jealous of
heat, humidity and all the things that go along with them like bugs, mold,
mildew and sweating.

I have a
dinette model and i installed a Mermaid 5000 BTU unit under the rear
dinette
seat with vents coming out on each side of the port cabinet above the
table.? Super quiet and well worth the extra money.

I did the same last year, buying the lightest, cheapest 5k unit (from
the supermarket for $89 actually), it's a very popular quick fix in my
area.
We customized 2 wood pieces that fit around it, replacing the bottom 2
companionway boards, when in use. Of course, we haven't needed since our
first test....go figure. It is so small, it fits in my dock box when not in
use. I can also lug it home easily if I have the need to use it
    elsewhere.

?

Somewhere recently I saw online someone who used a standard 5k unit,
secured it on the cabin top just behind the hatch, and rigged it up with
waterproof canvas or something to vent into the boat, similar to the pricey
marine version. We may consider a similar version?for next summer, so
its easier to get in and out the companionway.

Hi;

?

I have a 1971?Catalina 27 (#65) and use a small window air
conditioner to cool my boat.? I place it on a piece of closed cell
foam in the cockpit sole.? I slide it back to leave and pull it
into the companionway opening when I want the main cabin cooled.? I
have a piece of cockpit cushion foam that seals it across the top and
my
companionway curtain fills the upper part of the opening, and drapes
over the cockpit cushion foam.? It works well and is a cheap
fix.? If you want pictures I will be happy to supply them.

?
