Another two good days this past weekend on Lake Norman, NC
Cooler weather and wind 10-15 both days with gust to 20.
The Peninsula Yacht Club had their annual regatta.
We sailed in the NON-Spin fleet.
The first race Saturday, we finished 3rd in our Division.
The second race Saturday, we finished 2nd in our Division.
This put us in a tie for second place with another boat ( Pearson 28 -
rating 192 - Note: They had two people come down from an Annapolis sail
maker to help them).
Being only one race on Sunday, we had to beat the boat we were tied with
and the boat in 1st place ( Ranger 28 - rating 189) had to finish 3rd or
worst.
Race started with wind at 15+. Went with reefed main and 155.
Half way up to the first mark, we got hit on the port side by another
boat tacking from port to starboard, we were on starboard. No real
damage to either boat, just egos.
This dropped us back a little while we check things to be sure.
By the time we got to the windward mark, the wind had starting droppin'
to 10-12.
We unreefed the main to go back downwind.
Slowly started to catch back up with our competition.
At the leeward mark we were then within 5 boat lengths of the Pearson.
They started to pull away from us some, but we got a good lift to the
right while they went to the left.
This put us ahead for a while, then they came back to pass us.
The course was 6.7 nm, so we had to finish within 60 seconds of them.
Meanwhile, the Ranger was still behind us by over 2 minutes, thank goodness.
So if we could stay close enough, we just might pull this out of the bag.
The wind start to fill in from the starboard stern quarter. Good for us.
We finally crossed the finish line, 45 seconds behind the Pearson.
This put us ahead by 16 seconds corrected time.
Final results, We finished tied for first with the Ranger on points, but
get the tie breaker, and the Pearson finished 3rd.
This was definitely a good weekend of close racing, down to the wire.
May there be more like this one.

This last weekend was also great down here on "De Bayou". Although our
weather was a little warmer than y'all had but the humidity was down to an
acceptable 80%.
We however, didn't get anywhere near the water as you see, It's fall here in
South Louisiana and that can only mean one thing....LSU FOOTBALL and
tailgating on campus! It starts around 4 Fri afternoon and doesn't stop till
Sun morning (to give you an idea how big LSU football is, or big fall
regatta is scheduled around an "away" game)
Geaux Tigers, #2 and climbing
Mark, I seem to remember something about a boat I have somewhere but who
cares!
