Hey, a story about race day? What about the e-mail received on Sept 25 below? It was titled a "Tongue in cheek comment" but clearly was not a pro racing piece. Are we now being carried along with another literary tongue in cheek piece which exalts racing? And if the tongue is in both cheeks wouldn't that require a forked tongue? Aye! Brothers and Sisters, I say beware! Raphie is up to something!
DT >> > > It really is amazing, the number of Catalina 27's in all the local marinas > and so few race. ( SNIP )............ > *** Humor Alert *** " Amazing " ?? Not really What's Amazing to me ..... is why ANYONE, except the professional showman, WOULD race. To spend time and money to go putzing around some buoys .. Just for Bragging rights.. ?? " Woo Eeee , Harry, we beat someone.. Oh boy, Oh boy, now we get a cheapo plastic trophy. " Oh I know that somewhere deep in the DNA of us... We have the need to dash out of our cave and smash some other Neaderthal's head in. But what's Amazing is.... that some of us have a need to "kill" an opponent .. over and over again. It's amazing that .. A very small percentage of the total number of boat owners get so much attention. It's amazing that .. Magazines and Internet pages devote so much space to sail racing. It's amazing that ... The "retirement " of the National Catalina 27 trophies.. (sent to the Catalina factory). And .... NO ONE made a comment or complaint.. !!! Does that say something ?? Hmmm, Amazing.. ;-) UW Ralph Ahseln (I race no more) "Oblio" Gresham OR<< ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
