I liked it, too. It kept me engaged, and it didn't have any of that rotting
albatross stuff.

Very nice, Ralphie. My prediction was correct, though. But that is good.
That means several things: first, that each chapter supported the story as a
whole which demonstrates a well thought out plot; all the clues were available
to the reader to solve the mystery which any good mystery does; and the most
important thing (imho) is that the story was engaging...otherwise no one would
try to figure it out.

There is also a more subjective quality to the piece. Some writers write well
and are engaging but sometimes I wonder if they really care about the subject.
Other writers write well and are engaging but there seems to be a sense of
"joy" that is threaded through the sentences. I think you are cut from the
same jib as the latter (a little nautical lingo there).

Thank you for your gift and we await the Thanksgiving and Christmas pieces.

P.S. I am currently reading the bio of Thomas Cochrane entitle Cochrane The
Real Master and Commander by David Cordingly and have trouble putting it down.
Patrick O'Brien used Lord Cochrane as the basis for Jack Aubrey. You may enjoy
it.
