To reduce the soot on the stern, use B20 Biodiesel (20%). Or mix it yourself up to 30%. Smells better too ...

lets see if I can answer a few questions, ah no, how deep is the scratch, west marine has a nice setup for charging your batteries while hooked to shore power. As for the scratch did it go into the cloth this is important since if it did you my want to replace the damaged cloth if not clean the area with sandpaper you can start by cleaning with acetone first if you want make sure the area to be repaired has no dirt, moisture or oil see if you can find gelcoat that will match the boats you can also create the color with pigment. mask and or cover any area that you do not want gel coat this will save when it comes time to sand. sand the area to match and polish. If it is deeper you need to clean out all damaged fiberglass feather back any deep areas so there is an area for the glass to adhere to. once again mask of any area you do not want to get glass on. after the damage is built up to just below the gel coat sand to form then apply gel coat.
here is I link to help with the charger question

Hi all, Now that the boat is asleep on her cradle, Its time for me
    to ask some questions:

Has any one ever installed a power anchor and rode on their 27? What is the best way to repair a deep scratch in the hull?
How do you keep the transom clean of the black diesel exhaust?
    (beside scrubbing it every week)
I would like to install a shore power battery charging system. Any
suggestions on what make/model and where and how to install it?
