Mark Yes the exhaust manifold and flange were expensive, more than $400. The scent smells like oily exhaust. If you are in the cabin long enough, it can cause you some health problems. My engine is configured with the breather tube attached to the air intake in a way that it is supposed to pull in the fumes --- and has done so in the past. This arrangement also causes a lot of oily residue in the air cleaner/intake. An experienced employee of a local marina advised that his breather tube was initially set up in a manner that the crankcase vapors ended up collecting on the alternator -- causing a $300 rebuild of the alternator. He solved the problem by attaching a longer breather tube and directed it to an area under the tranny where he placed an absorbent pad to catch the drippings. Thanks for your thoughts and advice.
