John,

They sure look better than my '76 aluminum framed windows.  I have another
upgrade to put on the list.  Just spoke with CD and my traveler was sent
yesterday. : )

If you get around to that leak, I would appreciate some pics.  I seem to recall
seeing a website somewhere about upgrading windows to a frame-less type. Where
you could change the shape to a more modern look, only on the outside. Of
course my feeble mind forgot to bookmark it.  But if anyone else has ever come
across the website a point in the right direction would certainly help.

Is it 5:30?  All of this talk of windows reminds me of glass and glass reminds
me of beer.  Ummm.... Beer!

Ivan,

They came
with the boat and as far as I know, they are original and installed by Catalina
Yachts.  I think there maybe a “L”
shaped aluminum strip around the window or port.  I’ve never had one out.  I
know the port aft one leaks a little.  I need to do the resealing project that
Catalina Direct sells.

  John,

Saw your windows in your first pic.  That looks nice!  No frame?
What's involved in that upgrade?  Do they leak?

  Stephan,

The traveler was $612.  I imagine
you could do as well direct through Garhauer.  Some pictures are
  attached.

We raced one-design day sailors for a
long time.  About 7 years ago we decided to move up to a small
keelboat.  My wife and I made a list of must have and would like to have
features.  We decided what we would buy was a cruiser/racer.  One
of the must haves was a wheel.  Looking at my boat I not sure that boom
end sheeting and a wheel are compatible.  I would not have bought a C27
if a wheel were not part of the package.

I agree that boom end sheeting is
probably better from a sail trim standpoint but I do not know how much
better.  I agree before another discussion starts that a tiller will
give the helmsperson better feel than a wheel.  I think the degree of
benefit of both of these depend on the capabilities of the folks handling the
  lines and the tiller.

Again, I’m very happy with the
result.  My wife has neck and back issues and the new traveler has
really helped when she trims the main.

  John,

Could you send a picture?  How much did the upgrade run?

  Thanks,

  I upgraded
from the original curved cabin top traveler with 3:1 purchase on the control
lines to the Garhauer that you see on Catalina Direct.  It is flat, has
5:1 purchase and is a beautiful piece of equipment, I'm very happy with
it.  If I would do it again, I would go direct to Garhauer.  This
is a custom made piece of equipment so they need the distance between the
  cabin top handrails.

  Installation
wasn't particularly complicated, just took a little while.  A lot of
holes to drill, 6 on each side.  Your situation is different than
mine.  You can keep the original setup until the new one is
installed.  I'm sure you are aware that three bails are required on the
boom to handle the main sheet load.  It can't handle single point
loading in the center of the boom.

  The
only issue I had was that several of the 5/16 in. machine screws that bolt
the horizontal member to the supports galled when I tightened or loosened
them.  Recommend you run a die over them before installing and
  tightening.

  I can
send a picture if you are interested.

  Traveler upgrade

   Greetings
  to all and a question:

  Has
anyone upgraded thier old-style rear-cockpit traveler to a mid-boom or
hatchtop traveler?  I'm sure the question has been asked before, but I
could not find a good thread to refer to.  Catalinadirect.com has what
appears to be an upgrade kit (~$600) but I cant find anyone out there
vouching for it as a replacement for the cockpit traveler.

  Thanks
!  After getting hammered by this listserver I'm finally going to use it
  for a q !  :-D
