Dear Friends:
Adam had another setback overnight. We received a call around 2a to find
out that Adam's oxygen levels went from 99-100% down to the low 80's after he
had a coughing spell. The numbers didn't come back up and they placed him
back
on the ventilator where his numbers still did not climb very well. They
thought it was probably an embolism but the CAT scan showed a pneumothorax, an
air bubble outside the lung. While coughing Adam apparently ruptured his
injured lung. They have place a chest tube back in him to let the air out and
this is helping him.
Another thing found appears to be air trapped between the heart and the
pericardium (the sac around the heart). "We are scratching our heads over how
this happened," was the response by the doctor but they think somehow the
coughing must have forced air through the sac. The cardiologists are on their
way
this moment to do and electrocardiogram to determine if this is compromising
heart function. If it is then they will have to do surgery to allow the air
to
escape. The surgery, amazingly, is not extremely invasive. If it is not
interfering with heart function then the air will eventually work it's way
out.
Over the last couple of days we have been very disappointed that Adam had not
been sent to rehab yet. Today he missed going by just a couple of hours.
We now thank God Adam was still at Shock Trauma when this occurred since he is
still on the monitors 24/7 which he will not be at Rehab.
So, it looks like a few more days at Shock Trauma. Today is day 34.
Please pray
• God will help Adam's body do what He designed it to do and that is to
heal and recover from injury.
• God will give the doctors, nurses, staff discernment to do what is
best for Adam
• Adam will develop no infections especially in the graft of the aorta
• God will calm Adam's anxiety
• God will strengthen Adam's siblings (Aryana Ian, and Conor) during
this stressful time
• We have opportunity to share God's comfort with other Shock Trauma
families
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so
that
we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have
received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)
Thank you for sharing this journey with us,
Dave and Lisa
