Dear Friends:
Yes, it has been a while since the last update. Please take that as a very
good sign. Adam has been going to Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy
over at Franklin Square Hospital. They have done a great job working with
him. His sstrength and his appetite are coming back. He goes out to eat
with
his friends, hangs out at their houses, and entertains them at our home. He
is at church each Sunday and has been attending a couple of home Bible study
groups, too. So life is a little more "normal" for him.
He has had several very positive doctor visits. His blood pressure
medicine has been reduced by half. His vocal cords were assessed by Claire
over at
FSH and the cords are indeed receiving input from the vocal nerves. This is
huge. That means his voice should keep getting stronger. Claire went over
some temporary fixes that could be tried later if the voice remains week but we
are still months away from any "fix." He has also had his first dental
appointment since the accident and there is a plan for fixing the lost tooth.
Hopefully, this will get that done in the next month or two. Lisa's dad has
offered to carve him a tooth but Adam seems reluctant to accept the offer.
Adam will start back to college on Monday. He is taking six hours to ease
back into classes and homework. In a week or two he will be evaluated for
driving. If he is cleared then we are back to having three drivers in the
family. Of course, we have two cars and have another son about to get his
learner's permit (aahhhhhhhh!).
Adam, also, hopes to begin working again in the next couple of weeks. Quite
a bit going on in his life and ours too.
Many have asked how we are doing. We are tired at times but doing well.
Church, friends, and family have been a huge help during this time. Dave
tells people this has aged him and he did have that confirmed the other day.
He
and a sailing friend, John, went to lunch at the Carroll Island Diner earlier
in the week. Dave ordered a hamburger and diet coke. The waitress asked,
"The senior burger?" Dave's sighful reply, "Yeah, make it the senior's
burger." So, we not only confirmed Dave's thoughts about aging but also that
his
vanity gives way to frugality.
Lisa during all of this kept on teaching school, conducting concerts, and
leading the praise team at church while being a full time (overtime, really)
mom.
For Aryana, Ian, and Conor...life is pretty much back to normal.
Please continue to pray for Adam:
Recovery of the ability to speak with "his voice"
Strength and stamina as he returns to school and work
Timing in driving again
We thank God for leading us in all of this. Strengthening us; teaching us;
and comforting us. It is humbling to look back and see how He ordered each
step in Adam's recovery. Not just to make Adam healthy again but, also, to
help us become stronger in our faith. Very difficult to put in words some of
the spiritual impressions that have been left in our lives. Our prayer is we
will allow those impressions to make us better servants of Christ.
We, too, thank each of you for your support during all of this. Again,
additional words fail us.
Dave and Lisa
P.S. Please keep Dave's dad in your prayers. The other day during the snow
storm while avoiding a 13 car pile up in southern Maryland he drove his Neon
off the road and rolled it. He was upside down for a while. The car was
totaled. However, he was treated for minor injuries and released from the
hospital the same day. He is still sore but doing well.
