Visit the Data Pub at CDL

Data management plans, data publication, and calls for open data are raising the visibility of digital data as a medium to be addressed by a wide community of researchers, libraries, museums and data centers.  As a way to encourage a conversation on these issues, the California Digital Library has created a new site for exploring the landscape of digital data: Data Pub (http://datapub.cdlib.org).  Similar to public houses throughout history, we hope that this site and blog will serve as a centerpiece for discussing digital data topics – ye olde data public house.  

 

Additional institutions adopting the DMPTool for managing their scholars’ research needs

The DMPTool now supports the National Institutes of Health (NIH) data sharing requirements  NIH requires that projects seeking more than $500,000 in direct costs in any single year address data sharing plans in their grant application.  Plus, learn how additional institutions are adopting and customizing the DMPTool to meet their researchers’ needs.

 

Web Archiving Service Welcomes Emory University Libraries

CDL Welcomes Emory University Libraries as the newest Web Archiving Service partner!  Emory’s University Archivist and Coordinator for Digital Archives will be using the service to archive the University’s websites.  They will also use the service to archive materials relevant to the Emory Libraries’ Manuscript Collections, such as blog posts and author-created websites.   This will represent a new and innovative use of the service to enhance existing collections.

UC-eLinks wording changes: simpler is better

Thanks to suggestions from UC librarians, CDL has simplified key messages in the UC-eLinks window.  But these changes go beyond wordsmithing — they reflect changes in the nature of online discovery.  And they spotlight the important role librarians play in helping users dig deeper to get online content.
