Cataloging Serials With RDA

This will be an advanced half-day workshop focusing on serials cataloging with RDA.
Participants should have a working knowledge of serials cataloging, a basic understanding
of RDA concepts, and a familiarity with CONSER standards. Attendees will participate in
exercises using tools and documentation in support of cataloging serials with RDA.
"Virtual handouts" will be provided through post-workshop access to the
presentation slides.
Registration Fees
$85 non-members
$50 CLA members, NCTPG members, and SCTPG members
$35 student members
Includes an afternoon break with light refreshments.

About the presenter
Sarah Gardner is the Serials and Government Documents Cataloging Unit Head at
UC Davis. She is the Davis representative to the UC CONSER Funnel and does
training and record review for UC Davis staff and other members in the UC
Funnel. She is a longtime member of the North American Serials Interest Group
(NASIG) and currently serves as the Co-Chair on its Electronic
Communications Committee.

Basic Cataloging with RDA: Session 1 and Session 2
Monday, May 20, 2013 and Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Presenters: Chamya Kincy, UCLA; Luiz Mendes, CSU Northridge
Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the new cataloging standard designed
to replace AACR2. This workshop will offer a basic introduction to cataloging
with RDA, will focus on print monographs, and will cover both description and
access. Attendees will participate in hands-on exercises which will include use
of tools and documentation in support of cataloging with RDA. Access to the
online RDA Toolkit will be provided. A take-home paper handout will be provided
as well as post-workshop access to the presentation slides. In anticipation of
high demand, two identical sessions of the Basic Cataloging workshop are being
offered on consecutive days.

$65 CLA members, NCTPG members, and SCTPG members
$50 student members
Includes morning coffee and rolls, and an afternoon break with light
refreshments. Lunch is on your own.

About the presenters
Chamya Kincy is the Life & Social Sciences Cataloger, Cataloging & Metadata Center,
UCLA. She has served as the Medical Library Association's liaison to the ALCTS CaMMS
Committee on Cataloging: Description & Access. She has also served on the ALCTS CaMMS
RDA Implementation Task Force and currently serves on the ALCTS CaMMS RDA Conference Forums
and Programs Task Force.
Luiz Mendes is the Electronic Resources Librarian at CSU Northridge and the
current President of Southern California Technical Processes Group (SCTPG). He
also serves as a member of the ALCTS CaMMS RDA Implementation and Training Task
Force and is a national trainer for the Library of Congress Cataloging for the
21st Century metadata courses. Luiz is an adjunct faculty member in the UCLA
Department of Information Studies, where he teaches graduate courses on
descriptive and subject cataloging.
