On September 11, I sent an announcement to this list regarding DCM Z1 policy
changes for two fields commonly found in NACO records:

370 (Associated place)

and

382 (Medium of performance)

Subsequent to the announcement, there were some very helpful comments on the
policy changes and on the updated DCM Z1 instructions themselves.

I just posted an updated version of the DCM Z1 370
<http://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/rda/PCC%20RDA%20guidelines/Z01%20370%202013nov.p
df> instruction to the PCC web site. Thanks to Adam Schiff for his
suggested revision of this instruction.

I also posted an updated version of the DCM Z1 382
<http://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/rda/PCC%20RDA%20guidelines/Z01%20382%202013rnov.
pdf> instruction. The music community is currently working on best
practices for the 382 subfields that are now authorized for use in NACO
records, and those best practices will be incorporated into the DCM
instruction in a future Cataloger's Desktop update.

The updated versions of the two instructions will appear in the November
2013 update to Cataloger's Desktop, but the instructions may be applied now.

I would also like to remind all NACO catalogers that the following subfields
are not yet activated for use in MARC 21 field 368 (Other Attributes of
Person or Corporate Body):

$d (Title of person)

$s (Start period)

$t (End period)

$u (Uniform Resource Identifier)

$v (Source of information)

Please do not code these subfields in a 368 field in NACO records. When the
subfields are activated for use, I will send an announcement to the PCC
list.

Thanks,

Paul
