SJSU SLIS Expands Professional Development Opportunities

The San José State University (SJSU) School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) is delighted to share a few upcoming online professional development opportunities designed for information professionals. ALA / SJSU SLIS eCourse The SJSU information school and the American Library Association (ALA) have teamed up to offer advanced eCourses on topics highly relevant to professionals working in the library and information science field. The inaugural online course, the first of its type to be offered by ALA, begins in June and will cover web design and development. <http://slisapps.sjsu.edu/facultypages/view.php?fac=deanr> Raymond Dean, a lecturer for SJSU SLIS and innovative web developer, will take participants from basic background, introductions to HTML and Web standards, and the concept of modular Web design all the way through responsive design and multimedia. No prior experience with markup or programming languages is required. The Web Design and Development eCourse will run asynchronously for 12 weeks beginning June 2, 2014. The Emerging Future: Technology Issues and Trends MOOC brings focus to the planning skills that are needed, the issues that are involved, and the current trends as we explore the potential impact of technological innovations.
