Digital Content

transferring born digital content from a physical medium, while encouraging

·        The article, “Managing Ambiguity in VIAF

Jenny Toves, published in the July/August 2014 issue of D-Lib Magazine, 
explains how the Virtual International Authority File (VIAF) manages ambiguity 
of its tens of millions of names represented in more than 130 million authority 
and bibliographic records expressed in multiple languages, scripts and formats 
through a clustering process. It also describes how the problems and approaches 
used by VIAF may have implications in the use of linked data for other 
information services.

During this symposium hosted by OCLC Research, the Committee on Institutional 
Cooperation (CIC) and The Ohio State University Libraries, with support from

Merrilee Proffitt inducted as a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists

 

Congratulations to OCLC Research Senior Program Officer Merrilee Proffitt for 
being inducted as a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists last week at 
the Joint Annual Meeting of the Council of State Archivists, the National 
Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators, and SAA in 
Washington, D.C. The distinction of Fellow is the highest honor bestowed on 
individuals by SAA and is awarded for outstanding contributions to the archives

Collective Collection”

 

OCLC Research was awarded the Presidential Citation of the Association for 
Library Collections & Technical Services for outstanding service to ALCTS in 
the report, Understanding the Collective Collection: Towards a System-wide 
Perspective on Library Print Collections

recognizes distinguished achievement by an ALCTS member or members who make 
significant contributions to the association and to the profession but whose
