Increased Bibliographic Record Distribution Resulting from Phase 3A RDA
Changes to Name Authority Records to Begin in March 2015

Changes to the LC/NACO Name Authority File that were known as Phase 3Aof the
Program for Cooperative Cataloging project to make certain headings
acceptable under RDA (http://www.loc.gov/cds/notices/3A-141201a.pdf ), were
successfully completed in January 2015. As noted earlier
(http://www.loc.gov/cds/notices/130320a.pdf ), the same programmatic changes
made to authority records must now be applied to headings in bibliographic
records in order to bring the headings into synchronization.

The Library of Congress is now poised to start making changes to its
bibliographic records and will begin no earlier than March 3, 2015. Less
than 50,000 bibliographic records are expected to be changed. LC will
distribute no more than 30,000 changed bibliographic records each day
(Monday-Friday) in addition to the normal load/distribution levels for
bibliographic records. The actual number of records distributed may be
smaller, as some records may not be candidates for distribution, or other
processing priorities may cause the updates to be temporarily suspended.

In the interim until the changes to bibliographic records are completed, it
is not necessary to report discrepancies between the headings in the LC/NAF
and headings in bibliographic records in the LC database for maintenance.
CDS will issue a follow-up announcement when the changes to bibliographic
records have been completed.
