Trina Soderquist Senior Cataloger Educational Resource Center Boston College 140 Commonwealth Avenue Chestnut Hill, MA 02467 ------------------------------ Message: 2 Dear ALCTS Friends, Morning Edition had a very nice story on the "technology of the book" today, which featured Maryanne Wolf, who will be speaking at my President's Program at Annual in San Francisco. http://www.npr.org/2015/05/28/408787099/the-technology-of-books-has-changed- but-bookstores-are-hanging-in Professor Wolf speaks and writes about what she calls "the reading brain." Here's a snippet from the NPR story: "But is a digital book "better" than a printed one? The research is mixed. Some studies find we absorb less material digitally while others find no discernible difference. One thing that is clear: "We are not only what we read but how we read," says Maryanne Wolf, a professor at Tufts University and author of Proust and the Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain." Please come see Maryanne Wolf in person! ALCTS President's Program Monday, June 29th 10:30 am - 12:00 pm Moscone Convention Center 3014-3016 (W) Hope to see you there!
