The MLA Cataloging and Metadata Committee and the MLA Educational Outreach
Subcommittee are delighted to announce the final webinar of the 2015 series
presented in cooperation with ALA Editions:

Introduction to LC's Music Medium of Performance and Genre Vocabularies Workshop
Wednesday, October 28, 2015, 2:30-4p EST
Presented by Nancy L Lorimer, Casey Mullin, and Hermine Vermeij

This webinar will introduce catalogers to two new Library of Congress
vocabularies which are taking the place of LCSH for music scores and
recordings. The Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus for Music
(LCMPT) and the music portion of the Library of Congress Genre/Form Thesaurus
(LCGFT) represent a new chapter in access to music materials. They are intended
to be the preferred vocabularies for use with music materials. This workshop
will help catalogers gain familiarity with the new medium of performance and
genre terms, including how to identify appropriate terms, best practices for
their use, and practical cataloging examples. Please attend this webinar to
learn more about these important new vocabularies. The links to registration
may be found below.

Topics include:

*       Definition of genre/form
* The structure of LCGFT and LCMPT and individual terms
*       Searching LCGFT and LCMPT
* Using LCGFT and LCMPT terms for music in bibliographic records
* Music genre/form terms and LCSH
* The interaction of music genre/form terms with demographic, subject,
