I understand how disruptive these can be and apologize for the effect on your services. When I joined OCLC, I immediately launched a review of our technology platforms, architecture and data centers. The technology approach that has supported our collective growth and success to date will not take us into the future. Just as your libraries are rapidly evolving to meet library users' current and anticipated demands, our services are shifting as well, with an increasing need for speed, visibility and flexibility. Last year we created the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO), to develop and guide our go-forward technology strategy. I was thrilled to welcome Jeff Jacobs to OCLC. He has a track record of identifying opportunities and moving quickly, and he has instilled a future-focus and accelerated pace into our delivery. Jeff and his team have created a vision and a concrete technology roadmap that will support our needsboth in the near term and into the future. With full OCLC senior leadership support, our Board of Trustees has approved the largest technology project in OCLC history. As a membership organization, we have the unique ability, and accountability, to make these types of long-term investments. That technology project is underway. We will not rest until we have a solid foundation that will take us into the future. Technology is central to our services, and is a core OCLC focus. I'm pleased to share this technology member update from Jeff, below, to provide insight into our direction. Thank you for your continued support of OCLC. More and more of our services are used across your workflows and in multiple regions of the world. This requires an even higher level of responsiveness, reliability and scalability. We have an opportunity to do better. We employ rigorous, metric-driven processes in our technology group. While these metrics are trending in a positive direction overall, any outage is one too many, and each delay is unacceptable. We are working hard to improve our delivery every day. To support your needs and increasing requirements well into the future, we have embarked upon a next-generation approach to technology at OCLC. We have a clear roadmap, which includes evolving our data center strategy, continually upgrading equipment and infrastructure, and further standardizing processes globally to increase service responsiveness. These investments will exponentially advance our service delivery in the years to come. We will all benefit from increased speed; from faster searches on the user side, to more rapid roll-out of future functionality for libraries. This evolution will optimize overall performance, increasing redundancy, supporting greater scalability and furthering security. Failover and disaster recovery will also be enhanced. Most importantly, we can collectively meet library users' expectations and keep pace with them as they evolve. In the area of technology, we cannot stand still, and I'm proud to say that OCLC is taking a best-in-breed approach and benchmarking against leading consumer services providers. While this journey is well underway, we will execute key elements of this plan over the next year. Much of the work is occurring behind the scenes. Some of these transitions will require scheduled downtime for select services. We will continue to schedule these events for minimal impact across our membership and will provide advance notification. As with any major project, there will be events that we cannot foresee and changes to our planned schedule. We will keep members informed of our activities and progress. We understand the impact that disruptions have on your library and your users. Your users rely on you and you rely on us. We take that responsibility very seriously. Thank you for your engagement and support as we move forward together. OCLC has always been an innovative cooperative and this is another exciting opportunity for us to lead the way.
