The Policy and Standards Division has published a draft of the Genre/Form
Terms Manual, the instruction manual for Library of Congress Genre/Form
Terms for Library and Archival Materials (LCGFT). The manual consists of
guidelines and instructions for assigning genre/form terms and proposing new
ones, as well as for proposing revisions to existing terms. It replaces the
informal and occasionally ad-hoc guidelines for assigning genre/form terms
that have been in place since the project to develop LCGFT began in 2007.

Special thanks go to the ALA/ALCTS Subject Analysis Committee's Subcommittee
on Genre/Form Implementation, which edited an early draft of the Manual.

The Manual may be found in PDF form at
http://www.loc.gov/aba/publications/FreeLCGFT/freelcgft.html. It will be
incorporated into Cataloger's Desktop, LC's subscription-based online
documentation service, in late 2016.

Comments on the draft may be directed to Janis L. Young at [email protected]
through May 31, 2016.
