POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

University of Florida

George A. Smathers Libraries

Authorities/Identities Metadata and Cataloging Librarian

Assistant or Associate University Librarian

The Authorities/Identities Metadata and Cataloging Librarian is a tenure
track library faculty position in the Cataloging and Discovery Services
(CatDS) Department. Key responsibilities include providing leadership in
developing and applying best practices and international standards for the
management of names metadata not only within the libraries but also in other
contexts across campus; and pioneering the development of a program to
assist university researchers in navigating ontology development and
identity management, forging new collaborations and relationships that
extend the Libraries' capacity to support the University's interdisciplinary
research.

As an active participant in developing Linked-Data-friendly systems and
processes, this expert will seek innovative solutions for creating,
assigning and managing identifiers in library and other data stores, such as
International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) and Open Researcher and
Contributor ID (ORCID). As the library's leader in contributing to the Name
Authority Cooperative Program (NACO) of the Program for Cooperative
Cataloging (PCC), the incumbent will provide coordination, training and
review for name and series authority work of other catalogers, and will act
as a coordinator of the Florida NACO Funnel Project.

The Authorities/Identities Metadata and Cataloging Librarian will contribute
to departmental policy and procedure decisions, develop and assess
workflows, and perform original and shared cataloging using Resource
Description and Access (RDA) guidelines to PCC standards. Collaborating
closely with the Metadata Librarian, the incumbent will provide leadership
in developing creative, Linked-Data-friendly practices for the management of
named entities in the Libraries' metadata and in other campus data stores.

The search will remain open until April 20, 2016. For a full description of
