Course Description:

Encoded Archival Description (EAD) is an internationally recognized XML -based 
standard for encoding archival finding aids. EAD has become popular among the 
archival community and is currently being implemented by repositories 
throughout world. Written in XML, EAD is platform-independent, adaptable to the 
World Wide Web, and flexible enough to be used with a variety of collections. 
This course will teach you the definitions of EAD, XML, and HTML, the basic 
sections of an EAD finding aid, what software applications are used to display 
EAD finding aids online, and much more.

Learning Objectives:

*       Understand why EAD is important
*       Recall the basic sections of an EAD finding aid
*       Identify the proper usage of EAD tags
*       Utilize templates and style sheets to create your EAD finding aid

When does the course start and finish?

This course starts on November 7, 2016. It is a self-paced online course 
designed to be completed within 4 weeks. Participants will spend approximately 
2 hours each week on viewing lectures, answering quizzes, and completing 
discussion, reading, and homework assignments. It is recommended that you 
complete each week's work within that week to stay in sync with other learners.
