Help prevent contaminated Chinese food products from coming into the U.S. <http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=46jYqMxcR%2FbZ2yEpuyAUJpt2MF6UfL07>Take Action September 23, 2008 Dear Sue, [] In light of the Chinese tainted milk scandals, ask Congress to <http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ju5Z8zPLLqJxYkz4k5Ir25t2MF6UfL07>keep restrictions on importing food from China.<http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=VIB9tltVBj2hraWaficzM5t2MF6UfL07> Contaminated milk products from China have sickened over 50,000 infants and caused the death of four. This is the latest in a string of problems with China's food safety system. Currently, the U.S. does not import dairy products from China, but there are other food products, like chicken, that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is considering allowing in. <http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=XZNMvk21PA9iCC3I4yuGBZt2MF6UfL07>Will you ask congress to keep the current ban on Chinese poultry? Now is not the time to add chicken to the list of imported products from China. In 2008, Congress successfully blocked USDA from allowing imported processed poultry from China. However, corporations such as Tyson and Cargill have been putting pressure on Congress to lift the ban because they are building factories in China. In addition to ongoing problems with China's food safety standards and inspection system, there have been specific problems with Chinese poultry processing facilities, such as filthy and unsanitary conditions. Even worse, China has experienced several outbreaks of the very contagious bird flu that has not only infected poultry but has also been fatally transmitted to humans. Urge Congress to continue the ban on imported poultry products from China in the FY 2009 Agriculture Appropriations Bill: <http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=AWPzz3%2Br6SWFOPB4ZV95K5t2MF6UfL07>http://action.foodandwaterwatch.org/t/5915/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=25977 Thanks for taking action, Sarah, Filmona and the Food Team Food & Water Watch goodfood(at)fwwatch.org <http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=MRiEBtf4A07B4OMs1%2F2C85t2MF6UfL07>Food & Water Watch is a nonprofit consumer organization that works to ensure clean water and safe food.
