Monstrance

The Monstrance was taken from St Peter's Church in Warrenpoint

Members of a County Down parish have been left stunned by the theft
of a Monstrance from their church.

The Monstrance, which contained the Host, was taken from St Peter's
Church, Warrenpoint at lunchtime on Tuesday.

Very Reverend Canon John Kearney said that although the artefact was
valuable, it was "the sacrilege" which had upset his congregation.

"It has caused, certainly, a palpable sense of shock and sadness in
the community," he said.

"It's a special day in the parish because many, many people come to
the church in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament to take time out
to pray, to reflect."

Lord, may everything we do begin with Your inspiration and continue
with Your help,
so that all our prayers and works may begin in You and by You be happily ended.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
