Hi All,

The Catholic Church stands firm for the sanctity of life, consistent
with biblical principles, and Catholic doctrine (http://
www.catholic.com/library/abortion.asp). However, some, even in the
Catholic Church, are being duped into supporting abortion and
infanticide. Father John Corapi, in his “Eleventh Hour Election
Alert” stresses the importance of this issue:
http://www.fathercorapi.com/election.aspx

Obama has 100% pro-abortion ratings from Planned Parenthood (the
world’s largest abortion provider), and from the National Abortion
Rights Action League. He has a 0% pro-Life rating according the
National Right to Life Committee – literally worst in the nation.

Obama told Planned Parenthood the first thing he would do as president
would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA).

“Senator Barbara Boxer, co-sponsor of the FOCA bill, has said: ‘The
Freedom of Choice Act supersedes any law, regulation or local
ordinance that impinges on a woman’s right to choose. That means a
poor woman cannot be denied the use of Medicaid if she chooses to have
an abortion.’ In other words, state governments and the federal
government would be mandated to fund abortion with taxpayer money.”

Catholic Bishop Robert Finn agrees about the scope and impact of FOCA:
“It is clear that FOCA would immediately make null and void every
current restriction on abortion in all jurisdictions.”

The Freedom of Choice Act alone would reportedly increase the number
of abortions by ~125,000 each year.

FOCA would even nullify the ban on partial birth abortion.

Here is a good partial-birth abortion information resource, including
procedure diagrams: http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/pba/index.html

Obama stated in the third presidential debate. “With respect to
partial-birth abortion, I am completely supportive of a ban on late-
term abortions, partial-birth or otherwise, as long as there's an
exception for the mother's health and life, and this did not contain
that exception.”
http://www.hofstra.edu/pdf/debate/debate_transcript.pdf

However, there was a life of the mother exception, so that part of his
statement was at best unnecessary and at worst deceptive; it subtly
and erroneously implied there was no life of the mother exception.

He was correct that there was not a “health” of the mother exception
in the federal bills to ban partial-birth abortion. Why? First, in a
letter endorsing a ban on partial-birth abortion, the American Medical
Association called it, “a procedure we all agree is not good
medicine.”
- http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/pba/amaletter.html

Additionally:

- The Physicians’ Ad Hoc Coalition for Truth (PHACT) -- a group of
over 600 physician-specialists (mostly in obstetrics, perinatology,
and related disciplines) -- has spoken out to dispute claims that some
women need partial-birth abortions to avoid serious physical injury.
PHACT said: “We, and many other doctors across the United States,
regularly treat women whose unborn children suffer these and other
serious conditions. Never is the partial-birth procedure medically
indicated. Rather, such infants are regularly and safely delivered
live, vaginally, with no threat to the mother's health or fertility.”
In September, 1996, former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop and other
PHACT members said that “partial-birth abortion is never medically
necessary to protect a mother's health or her future fertility. On
the contrary, this procedure can pose a significant threat to both.”

Congressional findings in the existing law banning partial-birth
abortions, named the “Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003,” were
similar:

“There exists substantial record evidence upon which Congress has
reached its conclusion that a ban on partial birth abortion is not
required to contain a ‘health’ exception, because the facts indicate
that a partial-birth abortion is never necessary to preserve the
health of a woman, poses serious risks to a woman’s health, and lies
outside the standard of medical care.”
- See section 13 of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003:
-
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=108_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ105.108.pdf

Section 14 of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 contains a
litany of findings about the dangers partial-birth abortions pose to a
woman’s health, which I won’t list here, but recommend you read.
-
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=108_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ105.108.pdf

If one did not know that partial-birth abortion procedure poses
serious risks to a woman’s health, one might reasonably wonder why
even an unnecessary “health” exception was not added to the bills to
ban partial-birth abortion, “just in case.” The reason comes from the
1973 Supreme Court case, Doe v. Bolton, companion case to Roe v. Wade,
which stated that "health" must encompass "all factors-- physical,
emotional, psychological, familial and the woman's age-- relevant to
the well-being of the patient."
- http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/historics/USSC_CR_0410_0179_ZO.html

The ramifications of this very loose definition of “health” are
horrific:

“In June, 1995, Dr. McMahon submitted to Congress a detailed breakdown
of a ‘series’ of over 2,000 of these [partial-birth] abortions that he
had performed. He classified only 9% (175 cases) as involving
"maternal [health] indications," of which the most common was
‘depression.’”
- http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/pba/pbafact10.html

On April 18th, 2007, the Supreme Court upheld a federal ban on partial-
birth abortion: http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/05-380.ZS.html

There are people who simply will not see the killing of a human baby
moving in plain site (partial-birth abortion) as infanticide? Barbara
Boxer is an excellent example of such a person, as evidenced by this
telling exchange with Senator Rick Santorum (very highly recommended
reading):
- http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/pba/notansweringboxersantorum.html

However, what about if a baby is not just partially born, but
completely born? Nurse Jill Stanek brought to our nation’s attention
that abortionists were leaving babies to die following “induced labor
abortions,” also called “live-birth abortions.” On four occasions,
Obama opposed recognizing the humanity of these babies or offering
protection to them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4B3O9uUc-4 (Fox News Interview; very
highly recommended; YouTube video; 8 min. 34 sec.).

Even Barbara Boxer joined 97 other senators who voted unanimously (98
- 0) in support of the “Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002,” a
3-sentence bill to recognize the legal personhood / humanity of babies
born alive, regardless of whether the birth occurs “as a result of
natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion.” As
mentioned in the Fox News interview referenced above, Boxer even spoke
in favor of the bill, and the National Abortion Rights Action League
(NARAL) went neutral on it.

Focus on the Family recently interviewed Gianna Jessen, who survived a
saline abortion. In this audio interview, Gianna tells her story, and
speaks about the Born Alive Infants Protection Act:

Jill Stanek and Gianna Jessen created a Web site that very concisely
outlines the history of the Illinois version of the Born Alive Infants
Protection Act, and Obama’s role in defeating it in committee. The
site even contains links to photos of Obama’s votes, so I will just
reference it here and provide one quote below:
Timeline: http://www.bornalivetruth.org/timeline.aspx
Obama’s Record: http://www.bornalivetruth.org/obamarecord.aspx

In 2003, as chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human
Services Committee, Obama voted yes on an amendment that made the
Illinois version identical to the federal one. However, he then voted
no on the amended bill.

Obama gave various reasons for his actions, from saying those who
presented the information were lying, to saying that the Illinois bill
did not have a neutrality clause (this was ironically the amendment
mentioned in the quote immediately above that Obama himself had placed
in the bill). His excuses changed as proof surfaced that he had been
misrepresenting the facts. Here is an NRLC White Paper showing
incontrovertible evidence that the mutating reasons Obama gave for
blocking of the Illinois BAIPA bills were disingenuous: “Barack
Obama’s Actions and Shifting Claims on the Protection of Born-Alive
Aborted Infants -– and What They Tell Us About His Thinking on
Abortion”

(Very highly recommended report)

Here is an announcement for a recent memorial service for a baby,
Shanice Denise Osbourne, who was born alive following an attempted
abortion, only to be thrown in a biohazard waste bag with bleach to
die:

A great deal of additional information on the BAIPA and Obama topic is
here: http://www.nrlc.org/

In April of 2005, Obama attempted to, and still intends, to repeal the
Mexico City Policy, instituted by President Reagan, rescinded by
President Clinton, and reinstated by President Bush. The Mexico City
Policy prohibits our tax dollars from going to international
organizations to perform abortions in their host nations (except to
save a mother’s life, or in cases of rape or incest). The policy also
prohibits the recipient organizations from promoting or lobbying for
abortion as a method of birth control in the host nations.

It would not be impossible that the next president could nominate 4-
or even 6-Supreme Court Justices. Obama voted against confirming
Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, and at the Saddleback Forum for the
Presidency, he said that if he had been the president, he would not
have nominated Justice Thomas or Justice Scalia.

These 4-Justices upheld the 108th Congress, S.3 “Partial Birth
Abortion Ban Act of 2003,” along with Justice Kennedy, defeating 4-
liberal judges - by only a single vote.

In a joint letter with Archbishop Joseph Naumann in Kansas City,
Kansas, and Bishop Robert Finn wrote:
“If we are inclined to vote for someone despite their pro-abortion
stance, it seems we are morally obliged to establish a proportionate
reason sufficient to justify the destruction of 45 million human
persons through abortion.
"If we learn that our ‘candidate of choice’ further pledges – through
an instrument such as FOCA - to eliminate all existing limitations
against abortion, it is that much more doubtful whether voting for him
or her can ever be morally justified under any circumstance.” (CNA)

I hope you will encourage others to vote for John McCain and Sarah
Palin.
