The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has given American
Maryknoll priest Fr Roy Bourgeois 30 days to recant his support for
the ordination of women or face excommunication.

The threat is revealed in a letter from Fr Bourgeois to the CDF
distributed via an email from his lawyer Bill Quigley, National
Catholic Reporter says.

According to Bourgeois' letter, which is dated November 7, the
congregation has given the priest 30 days to recant his "belief and
public statements that support the ordination of women in our Church,
or (he) will be excommunicated."

The letter indicates that Fr Bourgeois received notification from the
congregation on October 21.

Fr Bourgeois attended the ordination of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in
Lexingon, Kentucky in August and preached a homily.

If he is excommunicated at the end of 30 days, that would come just
before the Mass rally and protest against the US Army's School of the
Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia, that Fr Bourgeois has organised
for 19 years.

Prayer for Unborn Life:
O GOD OF LIFE AND LOVE, You have given us the gift to participate
with You to bring new life into the world. But, all too often, the
mother's womb, which should be a nursery of life, becomes instead a
place of it's destruction.

Help us to remove this evil and ensure respect for all life made in
Your image and likeness, called to fulfill its promise on this earth,
and destined to find a home with you for all eternity.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Our God, Our Savior, and Our ALL.
Amen.
