Zambian priest Fr Frank Bwalya has been arrested in the midst of a
broadcast on Catholic radio after he alleged fraud in the African
nation's recent presidential elections.

The BBC reports that police detained Fr Bwalya in Kitwe, where he was
broadcasting for the Church owned Radio Icengelo.

The BBC says that Fr Bwalya had been running a programme analysing
the poll and the pattern of the results.

The ruling Movement for Multi-Party Democracy, which narrowly won the
vote, has accused the priest of bias.

African regional election observers have said last month's poll was
free and fair.

But opposition leader Michael Sata of the Patriotic Front has claimed
that the election was rigged, and has demanded that the results be verified.

Kitwe is a Patriotic Front stronghold and Fr Bwalya is an influential
figure, the BBC says.

The Lusaka Times quotes Zambia Police Commissioner Francis Kabonde as
saying that Fr Bwalya was arrested for engaging in acts intended to
promote hostility between sections of the community.

Fr Bwalya will face three charges in court on November 27 this year.

The Police Commissioner said the Priest has been charged with issuing
statements likely to cause hostility between groups in society
through the election programmes he had been broadcasting live on
Radio Icengelo in the just ended presidential by-election.

He has also been charged for alleging that the October 30, 2008
Presidential by-election was fraudulent and that the current
President Rupiah Banda was illegitimately elected.

Prayer for Unborn Life:
O GOD OF LIFE AND LOVE, You have given us the gift to participate
with You to bring new life into the world. But, all too often, the
mother's womb, which should be a nursery of life, becomes instead a
place of it's destruction.

Help us to remove this evil and ensure respect for all life made in
Your image and likeness, called to fulfill its promise on this earth,
and destined to find a home with you for all eternity.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Our God, Our Savior, and Our ALL.
Amen.
