KENNER, La. (AP) Kenner Police say burglars
took a priest's chalice from a Catholic church,
along with money in an offering box.

The silver-plated chalice was a gift to the Rev.
Luis Rodriguez, pastor of Nativity of Our Lord
Catholic Church, from his family when he was ordained in 2001.

Theft occurred between Friday at 5 p.m., when the
building was locked, and Saturday at 4 p.m.

Police say the burglars ruined a safe trying to
get into it but didn't take it. Another safe,
containing the chalice, was removed from the Reconciliation Room.

Church officials say the chalice is 6 3/4 inches
tall, and holds 18 ounces. The 12 apostles
encircle the cup and the four evangelists are around the base.

Prayer for Unborn Life:
O GOD OF LIFE AND LOVE, You have given us the
gift to participate with You to bring new life
into the world. But, all too often, the mother's
womb, which should be a nursery of life, becomes
instead a place of it's destruction.

Help us to remove this evil and ensure respect
for all life made in Your image and likeness,
called to fulfill its promise on this earth,
and destined to find a home with you for all eternity.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Our God, Our Savior, and Our ALL.
Amen.
