Look to the Future, and Its Triumph from The Visions of Emmerich, p. 31-36 by Fr. A. O'Brien & R. Turion
The Venerable Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824) a German Augustinian nun, is considered one of the greatest mystics and visionaries in the history of the Catholic Church. Although of simple education, she could recall the details of her earliest childhood and had the use of reason from her birth. She understood liturgical Latin from the time she attended her first Mass. In the last 22 years of her life, she bore the wounds of the Crown of Thorns, and in the final 12 years, bore the full stigmata. During those 12 years, she lived entirely on the Blessed Eucharist and drank only water. She was told by Our Lord that her gift of seeing the past, the present, and the future in mystic vision, was greater than that possessed by anyone in history. Others, And Prophetic Warnings Another famous mystic, Marie Julie Jahenny, the Breton peasant, born in 1850, saw in her lifetime France devastated by three major wars. This favored child of the Blessed Virgin Mary was stigmatized, and for 68 years, she suffered on certain days, the passion of Christ. Among her many visitors was Cardinal Pachelli, the future Pope Pius XII. Long before the 1914 and 1939 World Wars, Marie Julie had been told about them, but she had also said: "There will come a time and a specific day close to the dawn of the 21st century, when, by an Act of God, a grave and serious warning will come upon the whole world, an experience which every human being without exception, will share in simultaneously. In the entire history of mankind, there will have never been anything like it... totally without precedent. "If governments and political leaders continue to ignore and reject the sovereignty of God, (here will be a severe chastisement which will change the face of the whole earth. Those few who survive will be charged with the responsibility to rebuild a world renewed in Christ." The Chastisement Of God Catherine Emmerich died in 1824, and a short time after that, in 1830, the apparitions of Our Lady to St. Catherine Laboure took place ¡n the convent of the Sisters of Charity at the Rue du Bac in Paris, which gave to the Church the "Miraculous Medal." Not long after this, Our Lady, in 1846, appeared to two poor peasant children on the mountain above La Salette, in the diocese of Grenoble, South-East France. The seers were Melanie Calvat, aged 15, and Maximin Giraud, aged 11. In time, a favorable decision was formally delivered by the Church authorities about the single La Salette apparition. The New Catholic Encyclopedia states that subsequent Popes since Pius IX, to whom the two children made known the secrets which the Blessed Virgin gave to them, have confirmed La Salette and the cult. Pope Leo XIII made the large church, which was built on the site of the apparition, a minor Basilica. Pope Pius IX, some several years after the event, was asked by the superior of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette whether the secrets could not be disclosed. The Pope replied: "So, you want to know the secrets of La Salette? Well, here they are... unless you repent, you will all perish." These are the most authoritative words known about the secrets. It is known that when Melanie was writing out the secrets to be sent to the Pope on the second occasion, as she said that she had made a mistake about dates in the first letter, she asked for the correct spelling of "corrupt" (she said that she was writing "corrupt cities"). She also wanted to know how to spell "antichrist." In La Salette, a spring near where Our Lady had appeared was always dry except in the Spring when the snows melted. After the apparition, it never dries up and now has been associated with many miraculous cures. However, the main importance of La Salette may be a warning of impending disaster. The Virgin was weeping. It is claimed that She said that She would be forced to let fall the arm of Her Son, and as a result, corrupt cities would be wiped out. Catherine Emmerich once said: "Then I saw an apparition of the Mother of God, and she said that the tribulation would be very great." When we consider a coming chastisement of corrupt cities, we must consider that cities, like Paris, have been centers of what is known as "the black mass" for very many years. That involves desecration of a Consecrated Host with obscene rites and is part of the black magic of the Jewish Cabala, and is conducted by those who practice satanism. It is the heart of Masonry. Exposition And Reparation On Holy Thursday, March 31, 1988, the day the Catholic Church remembers the last Supper of Christ and the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood, Our Lady gave a message to Fr. Gobbi. In this message, she asked for frequent exposition and veneration of the Blessed Sacrament in reparation for what she calls: "The outrages, the numerous sacrileges, and the terrible profanations to which Jesus is subjected during black masses, a diabolical and sacrilegious cult, which is increasingly spreading, and which has as its supreme expression, unmentionable and obscene acts against the Blessed Sacrament. For this reason, the world is immersed in the deepest of dark nights." Heavenly inspiration concerning what God will do about all this, has not been only bestowed on Catherine Emmerich and Fr. Gobbi. A provincial of the Jesuits in the South-West of France, Fr. Nectou, who died in 1777, was widely regarded as a saint and a prophet. He prophesied about the times of the chastisement, and one of his predictions was: "A great multitude of people will lose their lives in those calamitous times, but the wicked will not prevail. They will, indeed, attempt to destroy the whole Church, but not enough time will be allowed for them to do it." He went on to say: "Paris will be destroyed so completely, that 20 years afterwards, fathers walking over its ruins with their children, will be asked by them, 'What kind of a place was that?'... to whom they will answer, 'My child... this was a great city which God destroyed on account of her crimes.'" Few Men Left On Earth! Pere Lamay, the holy French priest, who died in 1931, had many visits from Our Lady. He said: "She deigned to raise a little corner of the veil that hides the future, but I prefer not to look at future events." Nevertheless, he did say: "Peace will be restored to the world, but I shall not see that. A great effort will be necessary for the conversion of the world after the restoration of peace. The state of the early Christians will come back again, but there will be few men on the earth then. And, there will be another revival of Orders and Congregations" (from Pere Lamay, Apostle and Mystic by Comte Paul Biver, pp. 197-8). Fire From The Sky But there will be few men on the earth then... Our Lady Herself has said so in a message to Fr. Gobbi on September 6, 1986, in which she said: "Since this humanity has not accepted my repeated invitation to conversion, to repentance, and to return to God, there is about to fall upon it, the greatest of punishments that human history has ever known. It is a punishment much greater than the Flood. Fire will come down from Heaven and a great part of humanity will be destroyed." Akita, Japan Message A similar message was received by Sister Agnes in a convent at Akita, Japan, where a statue of Our Lady wept 101 times. It is noteworthy that the bishop concerned. Bishop John Ito, having concluded his investigations of the events connected with this statue, issued a pastoral letter in April of 1984. which recognized that supernatural events had occurred, and he allowed the veneration of Our Lady of Akita "in all places of my diocese until the Holy See passes its final judgment on this matter." Fr. Gobbi In Akita When Fr. Gobbi visited that convent in Akita, he also received a similar message on September 15, 1987, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, while he knelt in prayer before the statue. This was part of Our Lady's message to him: "I have caused miraculous tears to fall from the eyes of this image of mine more than a hundred times, and over a period of some years. I am weeping because humanity does not receive my motherly invitation to conversion, and to its return to the Lord. "My extraordinary appeals are not accepted. The signs which I give of my immense sorrow are not believed. A punishment worse than the Flood is about to fall on this poor and perverted humanity. "Fire will come down from Heaven, and this will be the sign that the Justice of God has already fixed the hour of His great Manifestation. Already that which I foretold at Fatima, and which I also revealed in the third message of Akita entrusted to my little daughter, is being fulfilled. "And so, the moment has come, even for the Church, of Her great trial, because the iniquitous man will set himself up within Her, and the abomination of desolation will enter into the holy Temple of God. I am weeping because in great numbers, the souls of My children are being lost... are going to Hell!" A Significant Message Surely a most significant message from Heaven regarding this earth and what is on it, is: "Fire will come down from Heaven, and a great part of humanity will be destroyed." Is this the real significance of the prophecy of Isaiah in the Old Testament (Isaiah: 24:4-6, which is quoted as follows)? "The earth is mourning, withering. The world is pining, withering. The heavens are pining away with the earth. The earth is defiled under its inhabitants feet, for they have transgressed the law, violated the precept, broken the everlasting Covenant. So a curse consumes the earth, and its inhabitants suffer the penalty; that is why the inhabitants of the earth are burned up, and few men are left." Chastisement Is Not Negative However, the Chastisement of God on Humanity in not a negative thing. Catherine Emmerich was told in mystic vision that her gift of seeing the past, the present, and the future, was greater than that possessed by any other person in history. In her visions of the Flood, she saw that there were frightful deeds performed on earth in those days... all kinds of wickedness, even the most unnatural. She believed that the terror of the darkness, with unceasing thunder and a fearful tempest, was the means of many a soul's salvation. And so it was, for she related: "The Mercy of God is infinite. I have seen that at the time of the Deluge, many, very many, were saved from eternal punishment. Fright and anguish converted them to God. They went to Purgatory, and Jesus freed them on His descent into Hell." So, likely in these times, it is easily imagined that only acute terror will induce humanity to call on God for mercy. When mankind has sunk to its lowest ebb and is ripe for the abyss, and when the great leaven, the Church is to some extent rendered impotent by a universal apostasy that Holy Scripture and Our Lady warns about, then to save the masses from eternal damnation, God shows His infinite Mercy through a great Chastisement. St. Paul, who suffered so much in this apostolic life, tells us in the Epistle to the Romans (8:18): "For I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that shall be revealed in us. "Therefore, if the sufferings of this world are as nothing compared to the eternal joys of Heaven, it must also be true that the sufferings of this world, however great, are as nothing compared to the eternal pains of Hell. "Therefore, if God allows such havoc in His created world that fallen mankind in fear and panic cries out to Him for mercy and forgiveness, and if it is only through disaster that they will do that, then God is only being merciful, because that cry from the heart is enough to save the dying from eternal punishment. Such is the infinite Mercy of God." St. Paul in that Epistle to the Romans tells us: "For whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). Catherine Emmerich in her visions of the Flood, and of the Risen Christ, saw these words of Holy Scripture confirmed in an extraordinary way. As in the past, so also in the present and in the future, in God's Plan chastisement is not a negative thing. How To React To Disaster Holy Scripture tells us how we should react in times of apostasy, the antichrist, and chastisement. Baruch 4:27-29 states: "Take courage, my children, call upon God. He who brought disaster upon you, will remember you. As by your will, you first strayed away from God, so now turn back: and search for Him ten times as hard; for as He brought down those disasters upon you, so, too, will He rescue you and give you eternal joy." Renewal On May 30, 1982, Our Lady's message to Fr. Gobbi contained this: "Through the power of fire and of blood, the whole world will also be renewed. Humanity will return once again to the glorification of the Father, through Jesus who will at last have established His Reign in your midst." And again, on the December 31, 1980: "On the waves of suffering never before known to this day, and of prodigies never before accomplished, you will reach the safe haven of new heavens and a new earth. An era of grace, of love, and of peace, is about to be born from the painful days in which you are living." New heavens and a new earth... God had promised this in the Old Testament in Isaiah: "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be in remembrance" (Isaiah 65:17). A message of Our Lady to Fr. Gobbi, given on July 3, 1987, had in it the following: "These are the times of the great punishment. The cup of Divine Justice is full... overflowing. Iniquity covers the whole earth. The Church has been darkened by the spread of apostasy and sin. The Lord, for the triumph of His Mercy, must now purify you with His powerful action of Justice and Love. These times are closer than you imagine. Jesus, who taught you the prayer asking for the coming of God's Kingdom on earth, will at last see this prayer of His fulfilled." Editor's Note Remember well that at Fatima, Our Lady specifically and clearly said that the Five First Saturdays must be made, or nations will be annihilated. We can choose to sin, bringing annihilation, or to obey, bringing peace. Many various predictions indicate what can happen, unless we begin to fulfill the requests of the Five First Saturdays. Those requests are: 1) Monthly Mass and Communion on the first Saturday of the month for five consecutive Saturdays, making the intention of reparation to Mary's Immaculate Heart. 2) Confession on that Saturday or eight days before or after, (or even longer if it is necessary), and remembering to make the same intention for the Confession. Too many people forget to make the intention before making their confession, and it must be made. 3) A Rosary on that day, and remembering the intention. 4) Spend 15 minutes pondering the mysteries or the life of Jesus and Mary, and remembering the intention. Make no mistake about it. Our Lord wants the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to be considered at each of these four conditions. Too many souls forget to do this, and thus, the purpose of these actions is nullified. The actions themselves are good, but without making the intention for each one, they do not complete Our Lady's request of us in order to save the world from chastisement. However, be joyful. Our Lady at Fatima closed Her words with the certain glorious and victorious statement: "In the end. My Immaculate Heart will triumph!" Interesting Phone Call I received an interesting phone call yesterday. The question was, "If we go to a Saturday evening Mass, which fulfills our Sunday obligation, are we also fulfilling the First Saturday Mass request?" My answer was emphatically, "Yes. It can even be a Mass for a wedding, funeral, or any other occasion." Please realize that Our Lord desires that we try to stay in the state of grace, and He wishes to show us that He Himself has ordained that, peace in the world can only be obtained through devotion to Our Lady! Whether the Holy Communion is received early or late in the day does not nullify the intention of Our Lord's and Lady's request... but our intention of reparation to Our Lady's Immaculate Heart, on our part, MUST be made. Our Lady suffers much, and Our Lord wants us to help alleviate that suffering. She suffers, because She sees that Our Good God is already too much offended by the multitude of so many sins being committed continually all over the world, and many souls are being lost because there is no one to pray or make sacrifices for them. If we do so, nations will not be annihilated. If we do not do so, they will be. Message Of Akita The third message given to Sister Agnes Sasagowa in Akita, Japan, is as follows: "As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Heavenly Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all of humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the Deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire Will Fall From The Sky "Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor the faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. "Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the pope, the bishops, and the priests. The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church, in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, and bishops against other bishops. "The priests who venerate Me will be scorned and opposed by their conferees; churches and altars will be sacked. The Church will be full of those who accept compromises, and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord. "The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of My sadness. If sins increase in number, there will be no longer pardon for them. "With courage, speak to your superior (Bishop Ito). He will know how to encourage each one of you to pray and to accomplish works of reparation. "Pray very much the prayers of the Rosary. I alone am able still to save you from the calamities which approach. Those who place their confidence in Me will be saved." St. Peter's Advice One section of the bible that speaks to me of this tribulation and joy to come, is 2 Peter 3:3-J3. I quote it to you now. "First, I want to remind you that in the last days, there will come scoffers who will do every wrong they can think of, and laugh at the truth. This will be their line of argument. 'So Jesus promised to come back, did He? He'll never come! Why, as far back as anyone can remember, everything has remained exactly as it was since the first day of creation." "They deliberately forget this fact: that God did destroy the world with a mighty flood, long after He had made the heavens by the word of His command, and had used the waters to form the earth and surround it. And God has commanded that the earth and the heavens be stored away for a great bonfire at the judgment day, when all ungodly men will perish. "But don't forget this, dear friends, that a day or a thousand years from now is like tomorrow to the Lord. He isn't really being slow about His promised return, even though it sometimes seems that way. But He is waiting, for the good reason that He is not willing that any should perish, and He is giving more time for sinners to repent. "The day of the Lord is surely coming, as unexpectedly as a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise and the heavenly bodies will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be burned up. "And so, since everything around us is going to melt away, what holy, godly lives we should be living! You should look forward to that day and hurry it along — the day when God will set the heavens on fire, and (he heavenly bodies will melt and disappear in flames. But we are looking forward to God's promise of new heavens and a new earth afterwards, where there will be only goodness. "Dear friends, while you are wailing for these things to happen and for Him to come, try hard to live without sinning and be at peace with everyone, so that He will be pleased with you when He returns. "And, remember why He is waiting. He is giving us time to get His message of salvation out to others.
