Even this verse says volumes about abortion

One doesn't even need a verse that specifically uses the word
"abortion" or see a passage that reads "abortion is wrong" to
conclude the Bible is fully against it. All one needs is to take note
of the many passages that reveal the personhood of the unborn. Once
that Scriptural foundation is established, and that is an easy
undertaking, a whole other Body of texts then become applicable to
the treatment of the unborn (as they more obviously apply to every
other living human being).

Every major religion has an ethic of reciprocity regarding the
treatment of other human beings based on some variation of sacred
text "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

If you were eight weeks along in your mothers womb, how would you
like to be treated? Would you want to be loved and given a chance?
Would you want to be burned alive with saline solution? If you were
ten weeks along in your mothers womb, would you want to have an arm
torn off your body? Since you can't speak yet would you want people
speaking up on behalf of your right to live? I'm guessing you would.

I decided to put this post up on a Sunday morning knowing a good
number of you are pro-abortion and probably not in some church
somewhere. Pardon my stereotypes and assumptions, I am aware there
are pro-aborts who frequent churches that say what they want to hear
on this matter. But in any case, for those of you stayed away today I
decided to bring a mini-sermonette right to you wherever you are this
morning. My hope and prayer is that this word will be like a seed
planted in you that cracks open in greater ways throughout this day.

You are probably like many in the Left who consider themselves a
friend of the weak and helpless. Mary Meehan once pointed out how
"the traditional mark of the Left has been the protection of the
underdog, the weak and the poor" and how it is out of character for
the Left to neglect the helpless. Terms like "bleeding heart
liberals" are tossed about because liberals are said to have hearts
for those conservatives would say ought to pick themselves up by
their own boot straps. But as Meehan also points out there is a great
disconnect on the Left when it comes to the most helpless form of
humanity, the unborn. This blindspot is the Achilles' heel of liberal ideology.

This do unto others verse has no relevance to abortion for the one
who chooses to remain in denial about what science now confirms - a
separate, distinct, unique living human being is the product of
conception. But whatever you think is growing in there, you have to
admit you were in that place in life at one point. In light of that,
at that stage of your measly existence, how would you want to be
treated? There is no denying some of the worst treatment of others
throughout history was justified because people denied the humanity
of the other.

The Bible is quite clear that God will treat us according to the
treatment we extend to others, and in numerous places he's especially
watchful over the treatment of the least of these. With that in mind,
maybe you ought to re-consider your support of abortion.

I challenge you to a pray a simple prayer for seven days straight.
Ask God to show you how he views the treatment of the aborted. You
can be confident he will answer this prayer for you either this week
or at a point to come when His mercy is no longer being extended to
those, like yourselves, who've shown the helpless no mercy. Pray he
reveals all this to you this week.
