That's why I was surprised when my wife, Laura Lee, drove from our home in Florida to upstate New York to see me play for the Rochester Red Wings, a Baltimore Orioles farm team. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "We're through." That night I was unable to get Laura Lee out of my mind. I thought about how happy we had been before our troubles. Am I doing the right thing, Lord? On a road trip, a teammate introduced me to a friend and I asked her out for coffee. After getting ready in my motel room, I walked to the door. But when I turned the knob, it simply spun in my hand. I flopped onto the bed and called the front desk. While waiting for help, I turned on the radio and heard a familiar song. That's the song Laura Lee and I danced to at our wedding! I remembered how I had held Laura Lee as we danced. Oh, how I miss her. A custodian finally jimmied the door. I met my date, but my heart was still back in that locked room. I cut the date short. When our team returned to Rochester, Laura Lee was waiting for me. We started talking and in a couple of days we reconciled. I moved back home where I belonged. I knew it was meant to be. Because when the custodian got that motel room door open, he had said, "I don't see any reason why it wouldn't open."
