Our Miracle through the power of prayer to the “Divine Mercy”

On the December 28, 2006, our family, (myself, my
son Nathan, and my wonderful husband Izaiah),
left for our holiday in Queensland. While on the
holiday I fell ill. The full extent of my
sickness was unknown to anyone. I did my best to
keep going, so that my family could enjoy the rest of their holiday.

On the morning of January 2, 2007, I was not
responding to the efforts of my husband to awaken
me. Without a moment’s hesitation he rang the
ambulance to have me transported to the nearest
hospital. After being transferred between
hospitals, I was brought to the Prince Alexandria Hospital in Brisbane.

It was there that the doctors worked tirelessly
to find out the cause of my sickness. After
running extensive tests, they found out that my
liver was slowly deteriorating, but they still
were unable to diagnose the cause. They told my
husband and son that my condition was spiralling
downwards, and that I was in need of a
transplant. Izaiah then comforted and reassured
Nathan that his mother was going to be fine,
while he was trying to deal with the thought of
losing his wife, who is his soul mate and best friend.

I was then placed on a waiting list for the whole
of Australia and New Zealand, in a desperate
search to find a donor. While feeling hopeless
and alone, Izaiah received a phone call, to tell
him that the family were on their way to help him
and Nathan in their time of need.

My mother Lina Vella and my older brother Micheal
Vella were on their way from Sydney to be beside
me. My mother has a great devotion to the
“Divine Mercy”. She found her only comfort in
prayer, and this gave Izaiah and Nathan something to hold onto.

My mother told me that the entire journey from
Sydney was spent praying to the “Divine Mercy” to
save her thirty-two year old daughter, (who has a
husband and a twelve year old son who love and
need her). A picture of the “Divine Mercy” was
placed upon my head by my mother, as a sign that
I was being watched over. As my mother continued
to pray my condition was still deteriorating, and
there was still no word of a donor.

On the third and fourth of January, Izaiah and
Michael were in and out of the doctors’ rooms
checking up on the progress, whilst still waiting
for a donor. My mother had now been praying to
the “Divine Mercy” for three days. By the fifth
of January my condition was getting worse and I was nearing my last hours.

When my mother learnt of this, she placed a
picture of the “Divine Mercy” under my head and
reassured me that I was going to make it. Not
long after that Izaiah and Micheal were called to
my room. Because they feared the worst, their
walk was slow and painful. As they entered the
room, they were greeted by a smiling doctor with
the news that I had a donor, and that the doctor
would operate on me that evening at 11:30pm.

The family could now rejoice and give thanks to
the “Divine Mercy” but with a five to fifteen
hour operation to go through, it still wasn't
over, and the operation only had a fifty percent
chance of success. I had to pull through again for my family.

During my operation prayers were sent up by
family, friends and everyone that knew me and
also by people who didn't know me. In the morning
seven hours into the operation the phone
rang. Izaiah received the news that they had all
been waiting for. The operation was a success,
and they could celebrate knowing that their angel had been returned to them.

I thank everyone who stood by me and who prayed
for me. Without my family and friends, I would
not have survived this tragedy. We pray everyday
to the “Divine Mercy” to give thanks. We also
pray for the eternal repose of the soul of the
donor, who lost his life and who gave life to me.
