Mexico City Governor to Receive Award for Legalizing Abortion from Bloomberg Foundation <http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/apr/09042410.html>http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/apr/09042410.html [] By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman, Latin America Correspondent MEXICO CITY, April 24, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Mexican media sources are reporting that Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico City's governor, is scheduled to receive an award from a foundation founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in appreciation for his support for legalized abortion on demand in Mexico's capital. Since abortion on demand was legalized in Mexico City two years ago, more than 23,000 unborn children have died at the hands of city doctors, many of them carrying out the procedure in public hospitals at taxpayer expense. In response, ten Mexican state governments have now approved pro-life amendments to their constitutions, in an attempt to prevent similar legislation from being passed at the state level. "We're the biggest city in Latin America that has this law and for that reason there is a lot of interest in New York," said Ebrard in a recent speech mentioning the award, and explained that "from their point of view the City of Mexico is the most advanced in Latin America and one of the most advanced in the world in this regard."
