Elderly people love gifts. But they don't need any more dishes or vases or knick knacks. In fact, the elderly are usually trying to unload all the stuff they have collected over the years. What they really need in their old age are gifts that can be used up and not something that takes up room. They especially needs gifts that can help them during a tough economy. Here are some terrific gift ideas that you may have never thought of before. Pay a Bill! This is one of the best gifts you can give an elderly person. You can pay one of their bills! All you have to do is call the electric company or the cable company and say you want to make a payment as a gift. You don't need any account numbers. Just a name and address is enough. Or you can write a check payable to one of the businesses and put it in a card to give to the gift recipient. I used to give my father checks made out to the cable company. All he needed to do was send it out! Give Postage Stamps! Most elderly still pay their bills by mail. They are not up to speed with paying bills online. And many elderly still write letters and send actual cards for birthdays. So a book of stamps is a great gift for an elderly person. Buy Magazine Subscriptions! If your elderly friend likes to read get him or her a subscription to a magazine. That's a gift that keeps on giving all year long! Clean for Them! There is nothing better than giving an elderly person a day of cleaning. They will appreciate it so much and you will feel awesome for helping them. And if you can't do the cleaning hire someone who can! Take Them Out! If your elderly friend or relative does not get out much take them for a nice ride. They will love getting out for part of the day. Let them decide where they want to go and enjoy your outing! Give Food! Food is always a great gift for someone who doesn't need much. They always need food! Buy some of their favorite non-perishables. And if they have a pet buy some pet food too! They will really appreciate that. Invite Them Over! We tend to visit elderly people in their own home (or nursing home) and seldom think to ask them if they'd like to come over. Invite your elderly over for an afternoon or even over night! A change of scenery can do them a world of good. Give Them Love! Sometimes the very best gift is absolutely free! If you can't afford to give an elderly person a gift or if they really don't need anything at all just give them your love. Say it, write it, sing it. No matter how you tell them it will be the perfect gift.
