Needing to stay local this morning while others headed north for Scissor-tails and fantasy rails, I thoroughly covered Myer's Point, Stewart Park, Hogs Hole, and Mt. Pleasant -- for all that effort the most interesting birds of the day were 2 HERMIT THRUSHES in my front yard at first light, giving their high night flight calls interspersed with soft "chup" notes from the top of a tree, obviously just descended from nocturnal migration.

The only other bird of note was a lone LONG-TAILED DUCK off Lagoda on the south side of Myers. No scoters or Brant anywhere. No interesting gulls. Morning flight at Portland Point produced a scattering of PURPLE, HOUSE, and GOLDFINCHES, BLUEBIRDS, ROBINS, AM PIPITS, a flock of 40 COMMON GRACKLES, 20 high SNOW GEESE, 1 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, and a high flying NORTHERN HARRIER. Mt. Pleasant just before noon also had some flyover PIPITS, about 10 RED-TAILED HAWKS (most of which could have been locals), and 2 more NORTHERN HARRIERS.

The extensive un-mowed and dogless grassy habitat at Hogs Hole looked excellent, but I only flushed a few SONG SPARROWS.

I hope others had better luck.....
