This morning I got a later start but biked farther north. On the calm lake I
could see a distant HORNED GREBE far northwest of East Shore Park, and I found
a second one close to shore from East Shore Drive just as it heads uphill. At
Stewart Park the two adult BALD EAGLES were again in the snag across from the
Cascadilla Boathouse. One of them appears to have a bit of a dark tip to some
of the tail feathers at rest. The numerous TUNDRA SWANS are spread among the
broken chunks of ice. I didn't count the swans but again the number looks
similar and I spotted Tim Lenz from a distance, so a precise number is probably
available from him. Various other waterfowl continue as well: CANADA GOOSE,
MALLARD, AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, GADWALL, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE, RUDDY
DUCK, HOODED MERGANSER, COMMON MERGANSER, REDHEAD, RING-NECKED DUCK, COMMON
LOON, AMERICAN COOT, RING-BILLED GULL, HERRING GULL, GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL.
I haven't been to Treman yet, so there may be more species around.
