On the way back from the book sale today an adult Bald Eagle was floating above
me as I was heading uphill on Rte 34 about 2:20. Pulled off just opposite those
glacial scours and watched him for a bit. Then a quick stop at Myers with just
the RB Gulls and the Snow Goose and a few swallows. A quick look out from
Ladoga and there was the eagle continuing to work its way north toward Myers.
After a couple piano lessons in The Springs I made a super quick stop (another
student was on the way to my house) by the Mill Pond on Rte 90 about 5:00.
Hadn't seen anything on it the last week or so, but there were a couple male
Mallards, and then another smaller duck that caught my eye--a male Wood Duck.
At first I thought "bachelors" but then realized that possibly they had mates
on nests. Should have scanned the shore--maybe the Snowy Egret was there, but
was in such a hurry I didn't think about it.

The Baltimore Oriole was boldly singing an incredible (and somewhat different
that I've ever heard) song when I arrived home. Interesting to listen to his
singing develop over the week he's been here. Just one- and two-note phrases
when I first heard him Monday, and then gradually lengthening and increasing
complexity as the week progressed.
