While you are out listening for night birds, look to the skies!
For those who don't know about the International Space Station click on the
site below. Scroll down to where you see "Satellite Flybys" on the lower
right side. Click on that & then enter your zip code. You will then get a
list of when the ISS will be visible in your area. We're just ending a wk.
of flybys that began on 9 May. Hopefully the sky will be clear tonight &
tomorrow night. No flybys will occur for another couple wks.. I never tire
of watching this "bright-as-Venus" object. Can't confuse it with an
airplane. It has no flashing lights & it travels across the sky in less than
3 minutes! Tonight, in our area, it comes out of the WNW at 9:08 at an
elevation of 89 deg..
Saturday it comes from the W at 9:33 p.m. at 27 deg..
If you like Auroras, you can see fabulous pix on spaceweather.com.
On Friday, May 14th at 2:20 pm EDT, space shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to
launch from Kennedy Space Center on its final voyage to the ISS. An on-time
liftoff would set the stage for an incredible sky show. On Saturday and
Sunday, May 15th and 16th, many observers will be able to see Atlantis and
the ISS flying past Venus and the crescent Moon in the evening sky. Visit
http://spaceweather.com for sky maps and more information.
