Shortly after noon today an Eared Grebe was readily visible directly out from the Aurora boathouse. It spend part of the time swimming alongside a Horned Grebe and, something new for me, doing some sort of display: Lifting its wings, still folded, a couple of inches up from its back and then relaxing. It did this several times in a row.

The lake was mostly calm, with only modest ripples, and the viewing good. In addition to the eared, I counted at least 8 Horned Grebes. Most of them were actively diving and moving quite a distance while down. So, in fact, there may have been more - or fewer.

The Mute Swans were not present in the cove north of Long Point SP but two Carolina Wrens came in to my call - and a nearby Eastern Screech Owl responded as well from the thicket along the road north of the park.
