It's our Project FeederWatch Day. When I awoke, my 12-year-old, Lisa, announced that she'd seen a Field Sparrow in with all the A. Tree Sparrows. "It had no spot on its breast, and I'm pretty sure it had a pink beak," she said. I refused to count it until I'd seen it myself, much to her annoyance, even though she does know her birds pretty well. I assumed it was an odd A. Tree Sparrow. Sure enough, for the next few hours, only A. Tree Sparrows, Song Sparrows, and White-throateds in the yard. But, darned if a Field Sparrow didn't show up just a few minutes ago. What can I say? We have never before seen one in the winter at our feeders in Brooktondale.
