Hi, My wife Gina and I took a visitor to our area on a trip around the lake today. Dave Loparco and I had done it on saturday and it seemed worth an attempted repeat effort. Our primary destination was the mucklands on rt 31 to see the many ducks ,snow geese and swans that are resting there. It can be a truly awesome sight to watch many thousands of snow geese take to the air in one giant shimmering mass and we spent over an hour enjoying the show . While in the MNWR area I drove over to the eagle nest sight off 89 but it appeared to be empty. Still hoping to show our friend an eagle I drove to Tsh..(sp) pool. There were 4 eagles on the ice and I got out my spotting scope for a better look. As I was attempting to focus on the nearest bird it lifted off the ice and began flying towards us. Switching to binocs I realized what I was looking at was not your typical bald eagle. It wasn't a bald eagle at all. It was a golden. At the moment I realized what I was seeing and called to the others to look, an adult bald eagle appeared in my binoc field and commenced dogfighting with the golden right over our heads. This went on for probably a few minutes with no apparent winner but the bald eagle, who had the home court advantage, soon became more aggressive and quickly drove the golden west and out of sight. Throughout this event two young bald eagles just sat on the ice, seemingly unawares of the drama above them. In the immortal words of Perry Como or was it Dean Martin " memories are made of this." Bird Hard, Bard PS: I googled it and it was Dean Martin.
