On my walk today at Monkey Run I was surprised by a calling Swainson's
Thrush. We also had a flyover Greater Yellowlegs from the yard this
morning, a new yard bird for us.

was near the creek on the edge of the spruces. It called at least
twelve times, a liquid pwip. Never gave any other vocalizations. First
called in response to my whistling an Eastern Screech-Owl. Called
several other times and remained hidden in the foliage. Finally had a
poor view of it, showing brown-gray uppeparts, buffy breast and buff
spectacles. Was not completely tattered or showing obvious signs of
molt, but views were such that I would not have been able to detect.
Greater coverts did not show pale tips, but again, views were not good
and scapulars covered part of wing coverts.
