Cayugabirds, As others have mentioned, The Big Year opens tonight and a group of us are heading out this afternoon for an early showing. I am forwarding a message from Hugh Powell (below). He will be writing a review for the CLO Round Robin blog and is looking for impressions and reactions from the Cayugabirds birding community.
For those of you that may not have heard, the Macaulay Library provided sounds and video for the film, including a shot of Nutting's Flycatcher, American Avocet and a slew of bird sound recordings. Here is the article from the Cornell Chronicle: http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/Oct11/BigYear.html Hope to see you at the Regal Theater in Ithaca at 5:10. Thanks, Ben Hugh's message: On 10/12/11 9:58 PM, "Hugh Powell" <[email protected]> wrote: Hi everyone, Does anybody want to join me this Friday evening at 5:10 at the mall to watch The Big Year? I'll be writing a review of the movie for our blog, and I'd really like to get the reactions of the whole variety of people at the Labhardcore birders, identification fiends, flight-call addicts, listers, twitchers, scientists who view birds as feathered question marks, educators who see them as the way inside a student's imagination, grizzled veterans and newbies still working on the basics, birders who simply enjoy it when birds cross their paths, as well as people who might not spend much time thinking about birds except you happen to work in a building filled with crazy people. All of those perspectives would make for interesting reactions to the movie, so I hope you'll join me. I'm choosing the early showing so we can go straight from work, and I'd love to have a discussion of the movie at an appropriate saloon or dinner spot afterwards. Send me a note off-list if you're interested so I can gauge interestand feel free to pass the word. Thanks! Hugh Benjamin M.
