Talking about strange vocalizations, a few times in the last week or two I've found a Carolina Wren (got a visual ID at about 5' away) making a "croaking" sound. It was definitely not it's typical song, but each time was at 7 AM and it flies off before it gets light enough to photograph. This was along Seneca Lake, southeast of Geneva, off East Lake Rd. --
