Thursday 29 December through Wednesday 4 January, the week surrounding Ithaca's "Christmas" Bird Count (on New Year's Day) is the time to take note of any unusual birds which might not be found on the actual count day Here's a starter list:
This morning at 9am at Stewart Park I saw
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT - 1
COMMON LOON - 2
RUDDY DUCK - 2 (These guys may not last - they were swimming toward hunters' decoys.)
NORTHERN PINTAIL - 1 male
GADWALL - ! male, 1 female
...plus many more common waterfowl, including hordes of geese & gulls, but no odd ones among them that I could pick out so far.
